The rules of NASCHAIR

A Naschair team consists of four persons and one office chair.
    A pit boss
    A driver
    Two members of the pit crew

The pit boss is the source of propulsion for the first 20 meters of the course
The rider is the brave soul that sits in the chair for the extent of the race
The pit crew members hold the life of the rider in their hands, and is mainly responsible for making sure there are no casualties

Rule 1:
Office Chair Requirements:
- Must have at least five wheels or five casters
- Must have a swivel base
- Must have been used for at least one day (8 hours) in your office before race day
- Modification is allowed and encouraged

**How to Play**

Protective Gear

Rule 2:
- All team members are required to wear a helmet. All helmets must be certified by a sanctioning body.
- Other protective gear is encouraged as Naschair is a dangerous sport.

Team Uniforms

Rule 3:
- Team uniforms must be uniform among all team members.
- Each team member will be responsible for displaying their race number on their person at all times. This may be done using a variety of methods…tattoo, tape of many varieties, permanent marker…so on and so forth.
- The number must also be displayed on the chair and be at least 12 inches tall and visible when the rider is in the chair. Race numbers will be assigned when a team registers. Numbers will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

**How to Win**

The Naschair challenge is a double elimination tournament with a toilet bowl bracket for those who lose their first two matches. This guarantees three races for every entry.
The pusher will push the rider down “pit row” for the first 20 meters and then must release contact from the rider and chair. Lanes will be clearly marked through “pit row.”

Rule 4:
- The pusher will not cross the 20 meter marker. If the pusher crosses the 20 meter marker with any part of his or her body the team will be disqualified from the race.
Once the rider crosses the 20 meter marker the rider may propel him or herself using any appendage for the remaining 70 meters of the race. The full course is 90 meters long. The pit crew members will spot the driver as he or she races through the course.

Rule 5:
- The rider may not intentionally interfere with another chair. If a rider intentionally interferes with another rider the team will be disqualified.
- The pit crew may not intentionally or unintentionally interfere with another chair. If the pit crew insomuch as touches the opposing chair the team will be disqualified.
- The pit crew cannot make any contact with the chair that will increase the chair’s speed. If this does happen the team will be disqualified.

Enforcement of rules will be handled by a certified Naschair Official and will not be subject to appeal or public trial.

The winner is the first to cross the finish line in each heat without being disqualified.

**Prizes**

Prizes will be awarded to the top three chairs in the tournament. A traveling trophy will be inaugurated into the event this year for the Naschair champion.

In addition prizes will also be awarded for:
- The team with the most team spirit
- The most creative chair
